light level CCD surveillance camera (0.003 lux) with 145mm focal
length f/2.5 lens with focal length reducer, field of view

Notes:
~~~~~~
(1) Observation of 97068B in very bright sky so unable to estimate
magnitude -probably around +6.5 - +7.0 with regular flashing.
(2) Last observation of IGS1A (21h15m23.6sUT) made when satellite
going into shadow.
(3) As usual with TIPS ( sorry last time I called it TOPS - typing
error-) position given is for centre of tether.
(4) Noss 3-2 rocket had several minor magnitude glints.
(5) 96-072A NOT seen on two passes so looks like it has moved. Will
have to do an orbit plane scan after Christmas season.
Whilst looking for it saw following satellites:
19h20m48s UT #26622 00075D range 2660 km,mag +5.8 steady
19h22m16s UT fast - pretty certain bird or UFO-too early for
Father Christmas.
19h23m35s UT #20721 90066B range 3400 km,mag +8.3 steady
19h30m23s UT #10461 77107B range 2460 km,mag +5.5 steady
(6) Other unpredicted but subsequently identified satellites:
18h45m UT #25559 98070B Sat Mex5 Rocket, orbit i = 7.3d,
p=160.9min, orbit 163 x 6687 kms.Observed range
of 6400 km, rapid flashing mag +8.3
19h18m Cosmos 1994 rocket
21h25m Globalstar 50
(7) Whilst observing #90013 saw an interesting satellite and
got several positions before it faded out - shadow entry?
Cant find an obvious match in my element sets. A rough
calculation gives an inclination aound 71 degrees but if
orbit elliptical this will be out. Height was about 4200
kilometres. I have called it 99999 in the observations
above.
(8) Still a few more observations to come - NOSS 8(a),DMSP F15,
MSX and Lacrosse 4 - which I hope to do tomorrow.
(9) My precision time standard has had a little too much too
drink and is misbehaving so I will have to get into its
innards with a multimeter and oscilloscope - this may put
me "out of action" for a short period - depending on how
long it takes me to locate the problem. Although the
frequency control crystal is "spot on", the clock is
gaining time very rapidly but irregularly so it looks
like an intermittent fault which are the worst type if
you have to fix it.
(10) Please excuse any errors - my mind is elsewhere at the
moment with one or two domestic worries so my concentration
is "up the creek".
Cheers
Greg
