posted on 4/23/98 at 19:48 UTC by Keith Stein
Motorola Satellite Communications announced today that a third Iridium
satellite has been lost in orbit.
Iridium "SV 20" experienced a "hardware failure" and has been lost bringing
the total number to operational satellites to 62 of the 66 satellites that
will comprise the operating Iridium constellation.
A total of three satellites have been lost in orbit since the first launch
in May 1997.
No financial or schedule impact will result.
