The photographer kindly provided his images and I estimated positions
in IOD format from them (see below). The best latitude/longitude is
28.7564N, 17.8889W and 2308m elevation. The timestamps of the images
are not very accurate and the photographer estimated a 6.5 minute
offset from the EXIF timestamps in the images. I estimate the times
below are about 13 seconds early based on identifying the flaring
satellite as COSMOS 1410 [13589/82096A].
As far as I can tell these positions do not match anything that we
know about. As the positions allow for GTO type orbits, my best guess
is that a rocket stage belonging to a classified US launch
disintegrated and vented fuel.
