When this change was put into effect years ago, it basically killed my growing active interest in satellite observing. I used to enjoy loading the entire elset into pass prediction software in 'live' mode and trying to nab as many sats as I could with my telescope. I was even going to learn to make 'proper' observations and become a contributer here. Now have to satisfy myself with reading what others do here, and the occasional ISS or Iridium pass predicted by Heavens-Above. Admittedly, there's not much room for argument. Either you accept or you don't. The only argument, and I think most agree, is trying to control the data is pointless. But hey, this is the USGov we're talking about, right? It doesn't have to make sense.
