I have been informed that the object discovered in Pará, Brazil, some days ago, which was reported here by Ms. Rosely Gregio, is in fact the oxidizer tank from Telstar 402 (94-058A, 23249). The Aerospace Corporation has a page related to its re-entry: http://www.reentrynews.com/23249.html They predicted re-entry on November 13, 2004 (plus or minus 16 hours), and USStratcom's final report gives it, if I read it correctly, as 1:50 UTC on November 14, 2004, with one minute uncertainty. Here's my earlier message following up on Ms. Gregio's message: http://www.satobs.org/seesat/Aug-2006/0227.html and here's her original message: http://www.satobs.org/seesat/Aug-2006/0220.html Again, I very much appreciate Ms. Gregio sending the report!
