NASA's original announce which is still there on their spaceflight website was that Progress M1-10 (or Progress 11 as they like to call it- see earlier posts on that topic) was to de-orbit later in the Pacific. It gave no indication of this "later" being a month! Being located in the South Pacific and in the path of ISS for some passes this had me on high alert till I received the update from HSF news digest. (I also alerted a friend in Belgium who had much better passes than myself.) According to the digest released after undocking "Russian flight controllers will conduct several scientific experiments with the Progress, using its television cameras to capture imagery of sites of ecological interest to Russian researchers while maintaining a safe distance away from the Station." Was this a last minute change of plan, or just not mentioned on NASA's website? And will they use it to practice taking pictures of another craft ready for shuttle safety procedures I wonder?
