newbie question

I just went out tonight at 10:35pm Eastern, and observed an object to my
East-Northeast. (I live in Kill Devil Hills, NC). This object was about 10
degrees or so above the horizon, seemed nearly stationary, but possibly
moving very slowly from north to south, from my vantage point. This object
seemed to be flashing colors, in sequence, red blue green, or maybe one of
the colors was yellow. Not sure. In any case, I am very new to sat
observation, and don't have a program to do predictions with. Can anyone
educate me as to what I saw? If not a sat, what? Planet?
