    Antonin,
    
    The liftoff time that our team gives on STSTLE@SPACELINK.NASA.GOV is the 
    time of first motion as detected by a sensor on the pad and sent to us
    by 
    the DOD C-Band Radar Network along with their data. Johnson Space Center 
    uses a slightly different method to determine liftoff time but I don't 
    recall the exact details. Perhaps it's the opening of the pad hold downs 
    but I'm not sure.
    
    In any event, the difference is quite small, as you note. Since we get 
    our data very shortly after launch -- before the JSC time is available
    -- 
    we use that time throughout the mission.
