I am an elderly physicist currently working in the field of remote
sensing. My purpose in joining this mailing list is to learn how to
observe the satellites whose images I use, partly for my own interest
and partly to engage my young son in my work. We're working at the
binoculars level now, but I hope to learn how to proceed further.

Trivia: In the late '60s I worked at RCA's Spacecraft Division in
Hightstown, NJ, where we built the TIROS weather satellites, among
other things. Later I worked for Fairchild Camera and Instrument
designing and fabricating CCDs, in Palo Alto CA. Some of our devices
are used in US national imaging programs, though Fairchild is now
owned by LORAL. So I've been on the fringes of the satellite and
imaging worlds, but never really within it.
