(Perhaps a bit OT for SeeSat.) Belatedly following up on the postings concerning a 28-channel adaptive optics satellite imaging station in Russia, I did some research this past weekend and found that the modest instrument currently there is only the first step. The next, with a 3-meter telescope and, presumably, an AO compensator with more channels, seems to be under construction with operational capability intended for 2010. The information(*) that has so far come to light has been aggregated into a sourcebook, now at http://www.fas.org/spp/military/program/track/altay.pdf (*) Mostly in Russian. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe/Unsubscribe info, Frequently Asked Questions, SeeSat-L archive: http://www.satobs.org/seesat/seesatindex.html
