decay altitude

Can someone please tell me at what altitude an orbiting satellite would
likely begin decaying?
I do understand there are many variables involved, but generally speaking
how high?
Yesterday I noticed a pass prediction at heavens-above.com for Cosmos 955
Rocket 10363 (1977-091-B) had an orbit of 277 x 287 km.  Are his days
numbered?
