Re.: MIR is Leaking (Lifetime!)

There was a question about the lifetime of MIR when the control will stopped 
today.
I have done an actual calculation with MPM. Two important factors are difficult
to calculate:  1) The effective surface area for the drag (tumbling ?)
               2) The increase of the solar activity during the next months

With the input of the fresh released NASA data for the solar activity over the
next months MPM delivers with a 24 hour integration step a decay at
                     5 April 2000
The lifetime will be 174 days. I think is the worst case scenario. Another
method, based on a pure SGP 4 analytic solution shows an earlier decay
                     6 Feb 2000.
