In South Africa they are also known as "sterretjies" in Afrikaans - 
almost identical spelling.  In the last few years,  celebrating "Guy Folkes" 
(or however you spell it) has become fasionable again and this is now the 
time of year to lite your "sterretjies, klappers, vuurpyle en vuurwerke".
