    Observations 29 Nov 20011
    ----------------------------

Cosatrak 1 (Computerised satellite Tracking System).
Camera mount now carries two systems that can be operated
together as two totally different sytems and computers used.
Generally the DSI Pro II camera will be used for high altitude
slow moving objects. Tests seem to indicate that its sensitivity
is comparable to the MINTRON ( possibly better) but as its not
possible (?) to time stamp to better than 1 second accuracy the
time resolution is not good enough for LEO objects.

MINTRON low light level CCD surveillance camera (0.005
lux typical in non integration mode) and 0.00005 lux in STARLIGHT
    mode with 128 frame integration.)
Used with 135mm focal length f/2.5 lens.Field of view
    2.4 x 1.8 degrees.
Individual frames are video time stamped with GPS derived signal.
    Images processed and measured manually.

Site 0433 : Longitude 18.51294 deg East, Latitude -33.94058 deg,
Elevation 10 metres-situated in Pinelands (Cape Town),South Africa

    NOTES:
    -----------
    (1) Much cloud around. Purpose of session was to evaluate new versions
of CoSatrak software so only tried bright satellites that I stood
a chance of seeing through cloud.

    (2) Also testing whether new camera on Skywatcher telescope could reach
focus. Could do but only towards end of travel of the telescope
draw tube so it will be necessary to increase the telescope tube
by approx 3 inches to safely hold the heavy camera and for the
rack and pinion focusing to work smoothly. Those who know the
SKYWATCHER short focus refractors will probably be aware that the
draw tube/rack and pinion focus construction leaves a GREAT DEAL to
        be desired!
Once this is complete I will shortly thereafter be back to observing
the high altitude satellites again with a new camera and GPS unit.

    Cheers
    Greg
