There's lots of enthusiastic people who watch the shuttle launch.  They have lots of information on the internet.  Try this for 
photography:

I agree with this guys advice: don't photograph your first launch!.  It goes quick and you'll be too busy and you'll miss it.  Same 
thing with solar eclipses.
