George, You might find this interesting. I am working on a catalog of 'objects not in the NORAD catalog'. I don't give them lettered COSPAR designations, since that's very prone to getting trodden on by future cataloging of debris. Instead, I give them numbers a bit like the SSN (NORAD) numbers but with a prefix: "A-numbers" in an "Auxiliary catalog". This way I don't stomp on future changes to the NORAD list. (I also keep catalogs of suborbital objects with different prefixes). For the objects that do have SSN numbers, I give them an "S" prefix for clarity. (When Space Command plays silly games and reassigns a catalog number, I give the reassigned object an A number as well so that I can track the distinction, and consider the S number only to apply to the current Space Command ID). I'm not including the bullets since they are only ejected after touchdown, I also don't include every film canister and piece of experiment litter dropped by Apollo astronauts on lunar EVA. What I have for Hayabusa right now is JCM Int'l Des Up Parent Sep time Landed/Reentered Perigee Apogee Inc CatNo from parent Atmospheric objects L30691 2003-019 M-14 2003 May 9 - 2003 May 9 0430 2003 May 9 -6200? 70? 31.20 Suborbital objects R54089 2003-019 M-25 2003 May 9 L30691 2003 May 9 0433? 2003 May 9 0438? -5000? 230? 31.20 R54090 2003-019 M-V Fairing 2003 May 9 A05278 2003 May 9 0432? 2003 May 9 0436? -5000? 230? 31.20 R54091 2003-019 M-V Fairing 2003 May 9 A05278 2003 May 9 0432? 2003 May 9 0436? -5000? 230? 31.20 Orbital and near-orbital objects S27809 2003-019A Hayabusa 2003 May 9 S27810 2003 May 9 0435 - 182 -885724 31.20 S27810 2003-019B KM-V2 2003 May 9 A05278 2003 May 9 0434? - 182 -885724 31.20 A05278 2003-019 M-34 2003 May 9 R54089 2003 May 9 0434? 2003 May 9 -185? 503? 31.20? In the meantime, hope this gives another idea about how to approach this problem. - Jonathan ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe/Unsubscribe info, Frequently Asked Questions, SeeSat-L archive: http://www.satobs.org/seesat/seesatindex.html
