hello
I have recorded the Sputnik-40 transmission and placed the wav file on my web site below. The signal was heard for 5 minutes with the strongest signal at 1524UT Nov 5, 145.820Mhz. This is about 30 seconds AHEAD of the closest approach of MIR as it passed over me. Minimum MIR distance was 400km, elevation 81 deg at 1525UT. I feel the sputnik is slightly ahead of MIR but it could also be due to antenna orientation. I used a hand held bearcat scanner and a radio shack all-band antenna (about 2ft long).
