I just recently read Desmond King-Hele's book, "Observing Earth
Satellites", circa 1980 and I highly recommend it. It certainly gives you
an appreciation of what is was like to visually observe sats before PCs and
tracking programs were available. It's a relative piece of cake these days
compared to what it was then. My hat is off to those on this list who may
have indulged in this activity before todays programs were made readily
As for me, I'll take clear skys and even HALF illumination. In fact
I'll just take clear skys not having seen one in a looooonnnng time.
