    As already explained by Rob, beta angle has to do with the Sun's position
    above the orbital plane. By the end of the mission, STS (and ISS) will be in
    sunlight for too long - this is often the case when (in summer) the northern
    apex passes near midnight.
    
    But sin(Launch Azimuth) = cos(i) / cos(lat)  (90 degrees when i=lat)
    so here Launch Azimuth is 45 degrees.
