    But there is a point when material in a letter NEEDS to be quoted.  I am
    irritated when people send e-mail, responding to other e-mail, and don't
    quote anything.  I usually spend the first minute after reading such an
    e-mail saying to myself, "What in the world are they talking about?"  On
    ocassionally bad times I must guess as to what the replyer is sending.
    
    The point is ... it is good not to quote excessively, and equally good
    when they quote material relevant to the discussion.
    
    [Note the amount of material quoted in this note.  The reader knows whatt
    he subject matter concerns, but they are not overwhelmed with excessive
    quoting.]
