Hello everyone. I've been interested in satellites for years, particularly the visual observation and generation of orbital prediction data. However, I technically "don't know what the heck I'm doing", and it has been difficult to find information on the Internet. I'm also a full-time student working on some prereqs for a math major at the local community college (so seriously, I "don't know what the heck I'm doing", heheh). Aside from that, I run the American Institute of Science and Technology; we don't exactly do much right now, but it's a great forum for our various projects. A week ago, I resurrected a little experiment I was playing with a few years ago. It was a site called "IwoSAT II", and generated orbit predictions from a Y2K compliant element format (like TLE, but with 4 digit years). It automatically updated from sites like Celestrak.com, converted the TLEs to ITLE (the name of the new format), and posted orbit predictions on the web with an old modified version of SatTrack. I found the whole mess tarred up in a DC6150 tape in a box in the garage... just for old times sake, I got it going again (with some minor modifications and a new web site design). It "seems" to be working. Granted, I vaguely remember some nasty problems with SatTrack's date system... and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if there are some major technical problems that I'm oblivious to. The web site is up at http://imperium.amist.org. It's only a 56k connection, so try and take it easy ;). The system has about 8200 satellites which it updates regularly... again, I wouldn't be surprised if the predictions are faulty, but I am curious if the system actually works. Also, I had lost interest in attempting to establish the ITLE format as a "standard" quite a while ago, anyone think it's a good idea?
