    Thanks to all of you who responded to my question.  I do have a 
    much better understanding of it, thanks to your excellent explanations.
    
    The use of a cardboard ring tightly fitted to a globe will be an 
    excellent demonstration of both the geometry involved and the 
    relatively close distance to the Earth's surface, compared to its 
    radius, that satellites in low-earth orbit really are.
    
    Had a very nice pass of Atlantis/ISS from Jacksonville, FL 
    this morning beginning at 09:12 UTC.  ISS may be a turkey when 
    and if it is ever finished, but it will be a very big and bright one!
