Hi folks, as a meteorite collector, former visual satellite observer, and subscriber to both the SeeSat and the Meteoritecentral lists I thought I should forward this posting to the SeeSat community. I have a small piece of debris from the Skylab decay of 1979 in my collection, but here is a much bigger piece of manmade debris that made it back home to the ground of "good ole Earth". Isnīt the idea fascinating to be able to touch such a piece once it has been in orbit, and may be has at some time even been a small part of a visual observation? Well, Iīm sure there is a thrill to it. Well, as expected, there also is a price to it... Wish I could afford that goodie. Thought you might enjoy just having a look at it. Clear skies to all, as we had here in Northern Germany for at least a non-interrupted 14 days now - very strange, very nice! Alex PS: due to the very strict policy of this list imposed by Bart I did not get this through as a "forwarding", which I tried first. Even forwarded messages seem to be denied on this list for reasons whatever. So here is the message, just appended to my mail. Hi there Bart, hope itīs okay for now..! :-) ---BOQ--- Even if you are not going to buy it, I recommend you to see this "man made" meteorite. Is part of the SALYUT 7 - COSMOS 1686 (or KOSMOS 1686) that fell in Argentina in 1991. The item of the auction is probably an helium tank of the propellant system of the COSMOS 1686. It is 110cm in circumference, and about 35cm diameter. Weigth 7.4kg The most remarkable characteristic are the SEVERAL HUNDREDS OF SMALL CRATERS MADE BY MICROMETEORITES that covers the tank. DOZENS of them LARGER THAN 1mm, and several from 3 to 5mm. http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=331809384 Is it OK to consider it a meteorite? Now the formal ad: All my auctions (including a few common meteorites) can be seen at: http://cgi6.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewListedItems&userid=rockhoundm&include=0&since=-1&sort=2&rows=25 Eduardo Jawerbaum rockhound@abaconet.com.ar ---EOQ--- -- ===================|================================| Alexander Seidel | Home position on planet Earth: | Dankersstrasse 22 | N53.5917 E9.4670 13m (WGS84) | D-21680 Stade | -------------------------------| Germany | Phone and Fax (+49) 4141 68772 | ===================|================================| ----------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe from SeeSat-L by sending a message with 'unsubscribe' in the SUBJECT to SeeSat-L-request@lists.satellite.eu.org http://www2.satellite.eu.org/seesat/seesatindex.html
