New Iridiums seen
Mon, 18 May 1998 11:01:56 +0000

Just a brief report of the sighting of the new Iridiums from the UK
on May 18 in an excellently clear sky.

First transit about 00:07UT at 11 deg el in the east, mag +8 to +8.5.
Second transit about 01:44 UT at 50 deg el in the south, max mag +4,
separation from first to last Iridium 2.6 seconds. It was noticeable
that they were not exactly in line.

Thanks to Ron Lee for all his work on prelaunch elsets!
