My apologies for what looks a false alarm. ISON did have elements for USA310 in their element sets for Feb 15 and Feb 22 - somehow I missed them - put it down to old age. Ted informed me of my wayward ways and also pointed out that visibility is rather dependent on phase angle and the satellite can be just too faint at times. I had observed it in the same area of sky before but this time it played difficult. I think Ill have to resort to more aperture next time I try this sat --- so false alarm and apologies to ISON....
