    I second this. It's what gave me a good view of the subject. It's not
    too wordy, and the illustrations are generally good. ISBN 0-486-60060-0.
    It's also available pretty widely and is reasonably priced.
    
    I'd also recommend a short book on matrix operations, Anthony J.
    Pettofrezzo, "Matrices and Transformations," which will help with the
    basics. ISBN 0-486-63634-8. It has the advantage of being small and
    thorough, but it is a little terse at points.
