Hi Charlie, welcome to the group! Knowing where Big Dipper is means you can probably learn to orient yourself on the sky using Heavens-Above prediction charts (click on the time) On Heavens-Above (often HA or H-A) you can find your location by: Configuration / select ... from database / U / United States / and your town name. If necessary, take a nerby town and click 'Neighbours' When done, all your subsequent pages will carry that info. Save the ones you like as 'Favourites', and reuse them. You can find (and identify unknown) bright satellites down to predicted magnitude +4.5 on Main Menu / Satellites / Daily predictions.../ 4.5 (5 if you adjust the URL), or a single object if you know the name used, or its international ID or US Space Command ID - from Select a satellite. (In the US Space Command ID case there is a shortcut - click on 'ISS' on the main menu, then replace 25544 with the ID desired) Also, read the SeeSat FAQ : http://www.satobs.org/ and http://www.satobs.org/faq.html and message repository : http://www.satobs.org/seesat/index.html ----- Original Message ----- .... > > http://www.heavens-above.com > http://www.n2yo.com/ > > You will need to know your Latitude & Longitude. > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe/Unsubscribe info, Frequently Asked Questions, SeeSat-L archive: http://www.satobs.org/seesat/seesatindex.html
