I agree with Jonathan for the whiter color after MECO for the flares but this whitening was gradual as if we could see the engine nozzles from behind instead of sideways as the shuttle was moving away. Photo flashes must be of extremely short duration. I remember one flare lasting so long that I had time to quit my binoculars and watch it with the unaided eyes. That sight will be long remembered. Totally unforgettable and remarkable sight - nothing like an orbital pass. I also saw the orange color during SSME burn, but think it was whiter during the post MECO flares. - Jonathan McDowell ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe/Unsubscribe info, Frequently Asked Questions, SeeSat-L archive: http://www.satobs.org/seesat/seesatindex.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe/Unsubscribe info, Frequently Asked Questions, SeeSat-L archive: http://www.satobs.org/seesat/seesatindex.html
