The Japanese have done a successful solar sail deployment test on a ballistic flight about a year ago. So I wouldn't give up hope yet. Of course one would expect more publicity for something like a solar sail (more in line with what we had last year with Cosmos-1). Do we have any friends in Japan who might be able to dig deeper into the Japanese language sites?
