Observed the recently launched Echostar 7 payload (#27378) at about 2:55 UT 5 Mar 02. The only reason I saw it was because it flared several magnitudes as it approach a reference star. Range was about 47540 km. It flared again about 5 minutes later. Five minutes after that I expected another flare but did not see it. It could have drifted from the field of view. Most of the time I could not track it so the magnitude was in the 12 range or fainter, leading to a tentative standard magnitude of 5.
