Hello, In the Wednesday (03/07/01) edition of the Wall Street Journal, there was an article by Homer Hickam (author of "October Sky"). He discusses the recent NASA budget cuts, as it has resulted in the termination of the following programs: X-33 X-34 X-38 Mission to study the study at extreme close range Mission to Pluto is still active, but there is no money in the budget for it He makes the point that this, in his opinion, is probably wise fiscal policy. It is time to re-organize the NASA human spaceflight organization, with a goal of creating cheaper human access to space, he says. AND GET RID OF THE SPACE SHUTTLE! The Space Shuttle is currently slated to be in heavy use to at least 2015 to 2020 (!). That's like driving the same car every day for 40 years. Not only is it expensive, but extremely dangerous. For the record, I agree with what Mr. Hickam wrote. ------------------------------ Jonathan T.
