In reply to Philip Chien's posting, here are the facts as I remember them after 34 years.. 1965-27C and D were objects of similar appearance, mostly faint, but flashing irregularly to naked eye visibility. The word was that they were two halves of a fairing made of plastic, with a very low radar RCS. I believe that they were both spotted by amateurs before NORAD found them. Perhaps Russell Eberst can confirm this. David.
