    Observations 07 June 2011
    ----------------------------

Cosatrak 1 (Computerised satellite Tracking System).
Camera mount now carries two systems that can be operated
together as two totally different sytems and computers used.
Generally the DSI Pro II camera will be used for high altitude
slow moving objects. Tests seem to indicate that its sensitivity
is comparable to the MINTRON ( possibly better) but as its not
possible (?) to time stamp to better than 1 second accuracy the
time resolution is not good enough for LEO objects.

    (1) MINTRON low light level CCD surveillance camera (0.005
lux typical in non integration mode) and 0.00005 lux in STARLIGHT
    mode with 128 frame integration.)
Used with 135mm focal length f/2.5 lens, integrating for 128 fields
which is equivalent to a max exposure of 2.56 seconds maximum
per image, but dependent on sky brightness. Field of view
    2.4 x 1.8 degrees.
Individual frames are video time stamped with GPS derived signal.
    Images processed and measured manually.

(2)Meade DSI Pro II Monochrome CCD camera without filters.
using integration times of 05 sec min to 30 seconds maximum
depending on brightness of sky in particular area.No image
processing done but dark field applied.
    Used with 102mm aperture f/2.56 refractor ,field of view 84 x 63
arc minutes. Can get to magnitude 13 or so in less than 20 seconds
    exposure.
Exposure time to nearest second inserted into image FITS header
from PC clock which is checked against GPS signal.
Images processed and automatically reduced using APEX.

    NOTES:
    (1) Currently "enjoying" my rainy season which will last for at
least another month so clear nights are very far and few between
and best that can be achieved is perhaps an hour shortly after
sunset. After a perfect day I thought "finally a clear night!".
Started well but within 20 minutes the clouds rolled in and I
battled for a while before giving up- one cant do exposures of a
few seconds duration with cloud drifting over the field of view
and wiping every thing out. I think Ill go back into optical
hibernation for the nexy month or so - will prevent my blood
    pressure increasing from the frustration!

    (2) VORTEX 6 not seen so has apparently done its orbital move
which is done every 220 days or so. Once the mean motion reaches
approximately 1.0032 revs/day a small orbit boost is done to bring
the mean motion back to about 1.0022 revs/day - this moves the
satellite more west and then over the next 220 days or so the
satellite will slowly increase its mean motion as it drifts
eastward again so obviously this old satellite is still
operational. None of the other Vortex satellites show this kind
    of behaviour.

    Cheers
    Greg
