I did some calculations using the moon as a reference and calculated an altitude of 220 km for the San Jose object (apparent observer velocity of 2 deg of arc per second). I do not have access to daytime satellite positions to advance this analysis any further. Maybe someone else can do the balance of the work, Oakland, CA is at 37.77 by -122.22, sea level. Observation was just after 3:00 PM local time.
