Technical issues related to mounting of Space Shuttle Atlantis atop its modified Boeing 747 carrier aircraft Friday night forced a one-day slip in the shuttle's departure from Edwards Air Force Base on the first leg of its ferry flight back to the Kennedy Space Center. Shuttle officials advised that although Atlantis was soft-mated on the three supports atop the modified 747 Friday night, difficulties with proper alignment slowed final lockdown, forcing the one-day slip in schedule. As it stands now, the ferry flight departure will not occur until at least early Sunday morning, July 1, with takeoff no earlier than 5:30 a.m. Pacific time. The actual time of departure will be determined after a weather briefing early Sunday morning.
