Thomas, it was a big bright meteor, the short duration
and the lack of any expected re-entry at the time make that quite definite.
Anybody who says otherwise has probably been uninformed about the essential details,
or is ignorant of the difference between meteors and satellite re-entries.

Nobody is expert in all astronomy, and journalists dont always ask the
right sort of astronomer. The media here in Australia far too often attribute
bright meteors to re-entries of space junk. In my personal experience
they also dont always tell the person being interviewed enough information
for one to make a reasonable decision, either because because they didnt
ask the eye-witness , or they want to keep it for the story.
