I have learned that the launch window of today's scheduled launch of Cosmos 1 is approximately 30 s. Launch is scheduled for 2005 Jun 21 at 19:46:09 UTC. In the event of a launch delay, the window opens about 4 min earlier each day. Official pre-flight estimated orbital elements are available on this Heavens-Above web page: http://www.heavens-above.com/orbitdisplay.asp?satid=67000 Based upon a drawing I found on the Cosmos 1 website, I believe the spacecraft's bus is about 1.1 m long, and its average diameter is about 1 m, from which I estimate standard magnitude of 8 +/- 2 (1000 km, 90 deg phase angle). http://www.planetary.org/solarsail/ss_spacecraft/image2.html As announced earlier, I will forward to the Cosmos 1 project all positional observations posted to the list, or sent directly to me.
