Hi all,
During my 4 week absence (which probably went unnoticed), I have noticed
that the number of off-topic mesasges and messages with excessive quotes
and/or signatures of more than 4 lines has increased considerably.
So, here's a reminder of our guidelines for messages:
1. On-topic is anything to do with VISUAL satellite observing.
Off-topic are such things as the moons of Mars, radio-observing, and so
on. Please keep in mind that each SeeSat-L message is sent to over 660
subscribers. We want SeeSat-L to remain a moderate volume mailing list
with HIGH information content. Messages that add nothing except for a
'me too' should be avoided. If you want to chat about satellite
observing, please use the Usenet group (it still exists!)
sci.astro.satellites.visual-observe
2. Please do not quote excessively. You may assume that everyone has read
the previous SeeSat-L messages, so please only quote what is relevant
to your reply. NEVER quote the signature or subscription information at
the bottom of each SeeSat-L message. If people keep quoting
excessively, I will install filters (in 2 weeks) that reject any
message containing excessive quoting.
3. Keep your signature limited to 3 or 4 lines or less. Many people use
free Internet service providers which add commercial tags to each
message already. This practice is annoying enough, so people with free
service providers should really reduce their signatures to just one
line.
Thank you for your cooperation. With everybody's help, we will maintain
SeeSat-L the nice informative forum that it has been since 1994.
Cheers,
Bart De Pontieu, bart@satellite.eu.org, SeeSat-L administrator
