All observers and analysts are reminded that a leap second is due to be introduced at the end of June 1997. Although all distributors of time signals should have the leap second programmed to be inserted correctly, it is probably worthwhile taking extra care around this time to ensure that observation times take the extra second into account. For example if your stopwatch is stopped at a time signal of 00:01:00 on July 1, and it has run for 1min 30 second, then the time of observation is not 23:59:30 as might at first appear, but 23:59:31 on June 30. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- best wishes Russell Eberst @ North: 55 degrees, 56 minutes, 55 seconds West: 3 degrees, 8 minutes, 18 seconds 43metres (150 feet) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
