Laser beams from Calipso were observed the morning of 7/14 in clear, slightly hazy skies washed to 4th magnitude by a waning gibbous moon . Two observers were east of the predicted ground track by about 170 meters and 250 meters. The observer at 170 meters saw 2 easy to see green beams about 20 degrees long radiating from a bright green point. Both beams appeared to be east of the observer. The observer at 250 meters saw a bright green spot and 2 easy to see 10 degree long beams, one appearing to the north and one to the south. To the observer the green spot was “brighter than Venus” and “appeared to have some size to it, like Jupiter” The apparition was quite fast and lasted only a fraction of a second.
