Question from the Fort Bend (Houston) Astronomy Club about Genesis-I. Anyone know? in their current orbits, would the two stations ever get close enough to see each other (ignoring that G-I is unmanned)? If not, will G-I's orbit be adjusted later on (for whatever reason), making it possible? -----Original Message----- From: FBAC-owner@mail.netslyder.net [mailto:FBAC-owner@mail.netslyder.net] On Behalf Of Brandon Byers Sent: Friday, July 14, 2006 10:27 AM To: FBAC@mail.netslyder.net Subject: Re: [FBAC] GENESIS-I Spiffy. Thanks! Now if you'll tolerate an ignorant question: in their current orbits, would the two stations ever get close enough to see each other (ignoring that G-I is unmanned)? I'd like to know if / when I might see it overhead. In case you might not have heard, GENESIS-I is billed as a "privately funded inflatable space station", and while technically correct it's more of a prototype or proof-of-concept testbed facility than anything else. It was launched yesterday by Bigelow Aerospace, on a bird flying out of Russia. It's the brain-child of Robert Bigelow, an American hotel mogul (his fantasy: a hotel in space within 10 years, based on his inflatable designs). More info / commentary: http://science.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/07/12/1737253 Where's the best place to find out more about the GENESIS-I mission, such as updates? Bigelow Aerospace's website is quite devoid of data, so far as I can see.
