While attempting to spot 2004XP14 I was observing at 30x near gamma cas and caught myself a couple faint sats. First was at about 1:20 am PDT (08:20 UT, July 3rd) and was moving from about southwest to northeast. It wasn't moving too fast as I was able to track it with my RA and DEC knobs. Second was at about 1:27 am PDT (08:27 UT, July 3rd) and was moving from southeast to northwest. hmmm, I may have that backwards - darned inverted images at funky angles. This one may have been tumbling, as when I tried to follow it, it faded out and I lost it. My location is -118.00W 33.80N. They were fairly faint, I'd guess about 8th magnitude. I didn't spot the asteroid. My limiting mag was averaging about 9.5-10, but I tried for about 1-1/2 hours anyway, just in case. I would have kicked myself for not trying and it had turned out to be brighter.
