[Yes, I know this is off-topic (I've acknowledged this in my subject line), but I'm assuming someone here knows the answer to my question. Please reply to me off-list. Thank you.] Last year, I took my computer in for servicing (replace a modem). When I got my computer back a month later, my hard drive had been wiped clean (with the original software reloaded), settings changed to ridiculous settings (and it took some time to restore the settings to what they were before), and prompted me for a password every time I turned the machine on. I sent a letter of complaint to Best Buy/Hewlett Packard, with no response as of yet. I couldn't ask for reimbursement for the loss of gigabytes of data, since they warned me that my hard drive might be erased for the procedure (which doesn't make any sense to me - why do you erase/format a hard drive to replace a piece of hardware (modem) ? Suffice it to say, I will avoid going that particular Best Buy. Not to mention that they have expensive prices and loud music. At least I didn't getted financially robbed too - it was on warranty. Not anymore, and I'm not going to let them touch my computer again.) Anyway, I can't get the computer to stop prompting me for a password since I got the computer back. They did something to it, and their "repair" work is no longer under warranty, either. And I'm getting tired of clicking "Cancel" so that I can actually use my machine. My question is: how do I get rid of the password prompt? I'm using Win98. I've never seen the password prompt, until my computer was "repaired". Can anyone help me? ------------------------------ Jonathan T.
