Observed the recently launched GPS IIR-05 (#26407) and the transfer orbit rocket (#26409) at 8:47 and 8:43 UT respectively on 18 Jul 2000 from Falcon, CO USA using and 8 inch telescope. The GPS was around magnitude 10 and the rocket about 0.5 magnitude fainter. I did not detect any obvious magnitude fluctuations during the short viewing period. At an approximate range of 6090 km, this would give a standard magnitude of 6.5 for the GPS.
