Hi all,
If some of you have wondered why I didn't reply to your mail messages, the
reason is that I've been ill for the better part of this month (but hope-
fully getting better).
First of, coming back to the discussion about long messages on SeeSat-L, I
would like to support Walter Nissen's viewpoint that long messages should
not be sent out on SeeSat-L. If you have a long message/file that you think
might interest the SeeSatters, send it to me. I will put it in the archive
and send out a message notifying everyone how they can get their copy. Please
think twice before sending long *and* ENCODED messages. The only thing you
should ever be sending to SeeSat-L is *TEXT*. Please, no attached or
mailer-dependent things. Too many people (even me) are using old mailing
software that doesn't know how to handle fancy stuff.
Secondly, I would once again like to ask everyone to *sign* their message
within the body of the message. The software for our list damages the
orginal header of your message in the process of forwarding your message
to the 130 subscribers. For some people, the only way to know who was the
author of a certain message is when the author has signed it!
Thirdly, here are some updates to our archive that have been around
for some time, but I didn't get to putting this new software in our
archive until now.
BWGS PROGRAM
------------
The updates to the flash period observing program of the Belgian Working
Group Satellites. Send a message with Subject: archive get program.*
to SeeSat-L-request@iris01.plasma.mpe-garching.mpg.de
to receive all program files.
To receive the summary report, send a message with
Subject: archive get satjun95.txt
to SeeSat-L-request@iris01.plasma.mpe-garching.mpg.de
QUICKSAT 2.10D
--------------
First of all, Mike McCants (thanks Mike!) has made the most recent version of
Quicksat available, version 2.10D. To get a text file that describes the
changes of version 10D with respect to older versions, send a message with
Subject: archive get quicksat/changes
to SeeSat-L-request@iris01.plasma.mpe-garching.mpg.de
To get a zipped and uuencoded version of Quicksat 2.10D, send a message
with Subject: archive get quicksat/quick210d.uu
to the SeeSat-L-request address. This size of this file is 195 Kb.
If you're just interested in the quicksat magnitude file that contains
reliable magnitude estimates for a lot of satellites, send a message with
Subject: archive get quicksat/quickmag.uu
to the SeeSat-L-request address. This file is only 35 Kb, it is also
zipped and uuencoded.
DECAY PREDICTIONS
-----------------
Bjoern Gimle has made available a program called NPOE30 that predicts
decays. You can get it from the archive if you send a message with
Subject: archive get decay/npoe30.uu
to the request address.
BEWARE : This file is 735 Kb !! It is uuencoded and zipped.
VARIOUS
-------
Bjoern has also kindly made available two self-written programs. One
corrects checksums and can be retrieved by sending a message with
Subject: archive get bjorn/cs.uu
to SeeSat-L-request@iris01.plasma.mpe-garching.mpg.de
To use it, uudecode and unzip it first.
The second program calculates the pole of a satellite's orbit. Send
a message with Subject: archive get bjorn/pole.uu
to the request address.
Cheers and clear skies,
Bart De Pontieu
