The influential magazine Sky and Telescope published two articles about satellite constellations online today. The first, written by their news editor Monica Young, focuses on the impact that these constellations have on astronomy. She summarizes the recent meeting of the American Astronomical Society as well as last year's SatCon1. The views of aerospace industry representatives and astronomers are cited. SpaceX receives much credit for the way they have "led the way in engaging with astronomers and voluntarily reducing the satellites’ impact on astronomy". I wrote the second article which centers on the fainter appearance of the new VisorSat design for Starlink satellites. Much of my work is based magnitudes reported on SeeSat-L by Jay Respler and others observers. https://skyandtelescope.org/astronomy-news/beyond-starlink-the-satellite-saga-continues/ https://skyandtelescope.org/astronomy-news/starlink-satellites-fainter-but-still-visible/ Tony Mallama _______________________________________________ Seesat-l mailing list http://mailman.satobs.org/mailman/listinfo/seesat-lReceived on Fri Jan 22 2021 - 13:30:17 UTC
