NOTES:

(1) The object reported as #18 yesterday appears to have been PAN on the
move. Observed again tonight in vicinity of ARABSAT 5A but suspect
its still moving slowly westward. If clear tonight will check.
(2) Expermenting with using the CCD camera for leo sats,hence LONG string
of observations of USA 129 (96072A) and on OTV 2-1. I do not propose
to report so many observations of a particular leo object in future-
although the observations will be available if required. The process
is all automated as well as the measuring so its no extra work for
me.
The procedure now being experimented with is to command the
camera to take a sequence of (say) 600 images at 1 second intervals
using an exposure of (say) 0.5 to 2 seconds ( depending on angular
velocity of the satellite). At about 30 seconds before the satellite
is due at a predicted position the sequence is started and hopefully
will get two - three short trails as the satellite crosses the field
of view.
The scope/camera is then commanded to move to the next predicted
position, with the camera still taking images, and another two-
three images are obtained as the satellite crosses the field of view.
When there are enough images the sequence is terminated. Obviously
there will be many images with no satellite - these are simply
deleted before the remaining images are then automatically processed
with APEX and put in IOD format for later checking.
Since APEX is intended for use with high altitude satellites the
leo magnitudes could be fainter than they really are - for example
NOSS 2-2 (A) , whilst a faint meo satellite, was not as faint as
mag = +14/+15. I would estimate about magnitude +10 as being more
realistic. However the magnitudes for USA 129 (96072A) look quite
reasonable so some experimenting will have to be done here.
