    Observations 10 Jan 2006:
    ------------------------------

Cosatrak 1 (Computerised satellite Tracking System).
MINTRON low light level CCD surveillance camera (0.005 lux typical
in non integration mode) and 0.00005 lux in STARLIGHT mode with 128
    frame integration.

Used with 145mm focal length f/2.5 lens, integrating for 128 frames
which is equivalent to a max exposure of up to 2.56 seconds per image.
The electronic light control (if activated ) can cause this to vary
from 1/50th second up to 2.56 seconds.

    Site 0433 : Longitude 18.51294 deg East, Latitude 33.94058 deg S,
Elevation 10 metres - situated in Pinelands (Cape Town), South Africa

Moon very bright - a real pain somewhere!!

    Notes:
    ------

    (1) Postions for TIPS refer to centre of tether.

    (2) USA 161 #26934 observed at 7 degrees elevation.

    (3) Still to report some geostationaries not yet measured, strays seen
        and USA32 and NOSS 0(E) #05682

    (4) Four unknowns seen - one was so faint it did not register on the
DVD recording but seen in real time. No matches found in my element
database checking one minute either side of the observed time.

    (5) Did some experimenting with software and can get a little fainter.
Still trying to sort out the mysteries of dark frames and field
flats. Also was obvious that recording directly to hard drive
produces better quality than recording to DVD.

    (6) With the moon nearly full I do not plan to track for the next few
days. Besides I have some work to do - the mount has developed an
excessive backlash in elevation ( about half a degree ) and the
newly added computer is causing interference to the various monitors
and DVD recordings so this will have to be attended to.

    Cheers
    Greg
