Ed, I still remember the shock I got in tracking this satellite, and a got a at least mag 0 flare off it. This was around 1965 or so. Presumably off the flat solar panel on the "top" of the hat-box shaped satellite. I was using a 20X125 monocular (Apogee scope) at the time so the brightness change was glaring.
