    Hi Ron:

Vandenberg launches are easily visible from Los Angeles. The visibility
varies greatly and depends on the time of day, vehicle type, and weather
    conditions.

Daytime launches are visible anywhere from 20 miles away (Titan II) out to
195 miles (Delta II). Morning and evening twilight and night launches are
seen anywhere from 200 to 700 miles away*.

I live 104 miles southwest of the base and north-south polar launches can
attain elevations of more than 25 degrees above the horizon.

    Regards,

    Brian Webb

*Sometimes twilight/night launches can be seen more than a 1,000 miles
away. Refer to my launch photo in the Gallery section of this month's Sky &
Telescope. I shot it when the vehicle was 1,300 miles away).
